Mike Brophy's Power Rankings: February 2, 2009

TW LW Team Our Take
1 A 4-2 loss to Chicago is merely a bump in the road for a team otherwise hitting on all cylinders.
2 We're not going to label him a sniper, not yet, but tough guy Shawn Thornton has two goals in his last four games.
4 Captain Jamie Langenbrunner has scored two goals in three straight games for the surging Devils.
3 The Red Wings sign Hank Zetterberg to a lifetime contract in the midst of a five-game losing streak.
5 Impending UFA Michael Cammalleri fires eight goals in four games.
5 For the third straight time this season Alexander Ovechkin registers a hat trick in the first two periods.
8 The Flyers appear to be sleepwalking at this stage of the season; a 4-0 loss to St. Louis is proof of that.
9 Jonathan Toews fires two goals in a 4-2 upset victory over the San Jose Sharks.
10 The Rangers are blanked 1-0 by Boston Saturday marking the fifth straight game in which Chris Drury is pointless.
7 Hard to say what was worse, an uninspired 3-1 loss to Boston Sunday or the most garish uniforms of all-time. OK, it's the uniforms.
11 Alternate captain Steve Staios plays his 500th game with the Oilers in a 2-1 loss to Nashville.
12 Ryan Miller registers his fourth shutout of the season, stoning the Phoenix Coyotes 2-0 Saturday.
14 Cam Ward registers his second shutout in two weeks in his 16th consecutive start.
15 Slowly, but surely, the Ducks are starting to look like a team that could be competitive down the stretch with an adjustment or two.
13 A week ago the Coyotes looked like a good bet to make the playoffs. Three straight losses later we're not so sure.
17 In three games since the all-star break Sidney Crosby has three goals and eight points.
18 They looked like they were all but dead a few weeks ago, but suddenly the Stars have climbed to 15th overall and are a good bet to make the playoffs with four straight wins.
16 Mason Raymond and Shane O'Brien are healthy scratches in a 4-3 loss to Minnesota while Mats Sundin continues to struggle to find his game.
21 After a disastrous start in Edmonton Friday, a game in which he was pulled, Niklas Backstrom bounces back with a big win over Vancouver.
20 Although he has been diagnosed with mono, the Blue Jackets expect super rookie goalie Steve Mason to continue playing. They think he is through the worst of the illness.
19 After two straight wins, the Panthers fall victim to the lowly Islanders.
23 Dustin Brown hit the 20-goal plateau for the second straight season.
24 Martin St-Louis, who has played pretty well all season, takes over the team scoring race pushing past Vinny Lecavalier.
22 Goalie Andrew Raycroft has enjoyed a decent comeback year after winning just twice in Toronto, but has hit the wall with five straight losses.
26 Pekka Rinne makes 32 saves in a 2-1 win in Edmonton.
25 Less than a week after the owner insisted the coach's job is safe, the Sens fire Craig Hartsburgh.
27 The Blues are known for scoring goals, but goalie Chris Mason is also grabbing headlines with two shutouts in three games.
28 After going 16 games without a goal, Nik Antropov scores in back-to-back tilts. Should make better trade bait now.
29 Four straight losses. Has anybody noticed?
30 Stop the presses: The Islanders are on their second three-game winning streak of the season.
