The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that goaltender Justin Pogge has been recalled from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.
Pogge is expected to start on Wednesday night in Buffalo. Veteran back up Curtis Joseph did not travel with the team.
In other roster news, defenceman Jonas Frogren and forward Andre Deveaux have been assigned to the Marlies.
Ron Wilson did not confirm any lineup changes for the Wednesday night game in Buffalo, but rookie Mikhail Grabovski was the victim of bag-skating at the morning skate. Indications may be that he will be a healthy scratch. Grabovski was a minus-1 in the overtime loss to Florida on Tuesday night. Jeremy Williams might be the player to take his place.
Both of Pogge's earlier starts for the Maple Leafs in 2008-09 have come on the road (December 22 and January 27) and he has a record of 1-1-0. In 34 AHL games this season he has a record of 16-14-4 with a 2.63 goals against average and a save percentage of .898.
Deveaux appeared in 20 games for the Maple Leafs since his recall on November 26 and he leads the team with 75 minutes in penalties. Frogren has a goal and four assists in 27 games this season with the Maple Leafs.
The Sabres will be without a number of regulars due to injury. Jaroslav Spacek (hip), Henrik Tallinder (shoulder), Andrej Sekera (ankle) Maxim Afinogenov (groin) and Johan Hecht (upper body) will all miss the Leafs game.
Teppo Numminen returns from jaw injury. Numminen missed the last six games after suffering a small fracture of the jaw vs. Carolina on January 17 when he was struck in the face by a puck.
