The Edmonton Oilers were quick to kill a rumour Tuesday that Jaromir Jagr was headed to the team.

A high-ranking Oilers official termed "bogus" a blog on the Edmonton Journal Web site that said the Oilers were close to signing the former NHL star. Jagr is under contract with Omsk of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) in Russia and would have to clear NHL waivers before signing with any team regardless.

Jaroslav Zidek, Jagr's European agent, said Tuesday that he was unaware of any advances made by the Oilers. He added that Jagr had no reason to want to leave Omsk before his contract expires at the end of next season.

Jagr, who turns 37 next week, has 25 goals and 51 points in 48 KHL games this season, according to hockeydb.com
