TORONTO -- Maple Leafs forwards Dominic Moore and Nik Antropov were held out of Tuesday's game against New Jersey because the club is weighing multiple trade offers on each player, Toronto general manager Brian Burke said during the first intermission of the Leafs-Devils contest.

"Multiple teams are interested in each player in separate deals," Burke said.

Meanwhile Tomas Kaberle didn't start the third period because of an injury. Sources told Sportsnet he is unlikely to be traded.

Kaberle re-injured the same right hand that kept him out a month earlier this year. He said after he was uncertain when and how it happened. The Leafs all-star defenceman is scheduled to undergo a CT scan Wednesday and is considered day-to-day.

Sportsnet reported earlier Tuesday that negotiations between the Leafs and Moore's representation, Ottawa-based agent Larry Kelly, had stopped.

"We exchanged proposals as early as this afternoon," said Burke. "The gap (with Moore) is considerable."

An unrestricted free agent at year's end, Moore said Tuesday morning he was "cautiously optimistic" he would return to the Leafs. The forward grew up in Thornhill, Ont., a Toronto suburb, but the salary with hometown discount he has proposed is nearly a million dollars more than what the Leafs have offered.

Burke said while other teams have contacted him regarding various players, none were serious enough by Tuesday evening to keep any other Maple Leaf out of the lineup.

Burke indicated he had not been fielding inquiries on Kaberle, for whom it was once thought a lock that he would be moved.

"We haven't received one phone call on (Kaberle)," Burke said. "The bar is probably so high from the public reports of what we want that it's not going to happen unless someone blows the doors off."

Burke said while few deals have been made to date, he expects there will be plenty of activity by the 3 p.m. ET trade deadline Wednesday.

"I think it will be busy," he said. "Some guys are under tremendous pressure to get to the playoffs and to have success in the playoffs. In the past, rental players attracted a high price. I don't see it this time. I don't see the market developing that way. Economic conditions are forcing teams to be more prudent."

Burke maintained that draft picks will be the critical component the franchise is after as they rebuild the organization as sellers through the deadline.

"I've tried to manage everyone's expectations," he said. "This is going to take some time.

"It starts (Wednesday)."
