TORONTO -- Maple Leafs winger Niklas Hagman returned to practice Monday for the first time since suffering a concussion Feb. 26.

The 29-year old took part in non-contact drills and worked individually with assistant coach Keith Acton as he makes his return from the injury.

Hagman took an elbow to the head from Brendan Witt of the New York Islanders in the third period of a road game late last month, one that ended up costing Witt five game cheques due to a suspension.

While Witt returned to action March 10, Hagman has remained shelved as he recovers from the concussion.

Hagman did not speak with the media Monday, but Ron Wilson said the team would continue to monitor his situation. The head coach also dismissed any thought of shutting him down for the year if he is cleared, medically, to play.

Meanwhile, Wilson said he hopes to have Tomas Kaberle back this weekend. On Friday, x-rays revealed the all-star defenceman still has a crack in a bone in his right hand. The Leafs hope another week will help heal the injury.
