Daniel Alfredsson says he will inform Team Sweden next week if he plans to participate in the 2009 World Championships in Switzerland.

"I'm not exactly sure where I stand," said Alfredsson on Wednesday afternoon. "In the past, I've said if I'm healthy, then I'll play. But that was before I had three kids. I'll talk to my wife and make a decision in the next seven days."

Alfredsson was unable to participate in last year's tournament because of a torn MCL in his knee that he suffered in April. He last suited up for Team Sweden in this event in 2005 -- during the NHL lockout.

The Senators captain said he would also consult the Ottawa medical staff before making any final decision on his participation.

General manager Bryan Murray said he would not stand in the way of any of his players participating in the tournament.

"I've never discouraged that. I think they should go in most cases," said Murray.
