One year removed from missing the NHL playoffs, it appears Dany Heatley might be ready to move on.
According to ESPN.com, Ottawa GM Bryan Murray has been notified of Heatley's desire for a change of scenery. However, Murray was quick to reiterate that Heatley signed along-term deal with the Senators and the club aims to honour it.
"We signed him to a long-term deal and we expect him to honour it," Murray told ESPN.com on Tuesday. "At this point in time, he's a Senator."
Moving the two-time 50-goal scorer will not be easy as any trading partner would have to have significant budget room. The remaining five years of Heatley's deal would count for $7.5 million against the cap. Heatley, who was born in West Germany, was raised in Calgary, AB, and is rumoured to be interested in a move to the Western Conference.
Heatley's agent, J.P. Barry, did confirm having talks with the club.
"We have been having discussions with Bryan Murray concerning Dany," Barry told Sun Media. "I'd like to continue these discussions in private before determining what's best for Dany."
Last season, Heatley scored 39 goals and totaled 72 points in 82 games.
