The future of the Sedin twins with the Vancouver Canucks will likely be decided in the next 24 hours. And the agent for both players does not sound optimistic that a new deal can be reached.
J.P. Barry confirmed that the two sides are going to meet this weekend in Montreal at the NHL Entry Draft. There has been no significant negotiations for the past 10 days and Barry isn't sure that the gap between the two sides can be bridged before the Sedins hit the open market on July 1st.
"We've been negotiating for more than a year, so it's hard for me to say I'm optimistic," Barry told Rogers Sportsnet on Friday. "We haven't really made a lot of progress in a year. We're going to have to address the gap that we have - but we've only got five days to do it."
On Thursday afternoon, Canucks GM Mike Gillis said he was optimistic the two sides could hammer out a new contract, saying he believed there was enough common ground between the two sides.
