The Toronto Maple Leafs have lured another free agent from the Swedish Elite League, reaching a one-year deal with center Rickard Wallin.
Wallin, who spent the last two seasons in Sweden, captained Farjestads to the league championship in 2008-09. He was a teammate of goaltender Jonas (The Monster) Gustavsson, who the Leafs also signed earlier this week.
In 55 games last season, the 29-year-old Wallin recorded 18 goals and 27 assists for 45 points. That was on the heels of a 40-point campaign (17 goals, 23 assists) for the same club following a brief stint in the Swiss league.
Wallin does have some NHL experience on his resume. He was drafted in the sixth round (160th overall) by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. While he never suited up for the Coyotes, he played a total 19 games with the Minnesota Wild between 2002-2004, recording 10 points.
