The Vancouver Canucks feel they are strong contenders to sign Peter Forsberg if the 36-year old decides to return to the National Hockey League next week.
According to a Globe and Mail report, Canucks general manager Mike GIllis has close ties to Forsberg's agent Don Baizley, which means the club is on the Swedish star's short list.
The Canucks have about $2 million in cap space available to sign Forsberg.
The article stated that Gillis said Friday that the team has been watching Forsberg since he played three games with MoDo of the Swedish Elite League earlier this year, and has two scouts at the Karjala Cup in Finland, where Forsberg is playing with the Swedish national team.
It has also been reported that the New York Rangers have sent scouts as well.
