Injured goaltender Rick DiPietro will soon begin practising with his New York Islanders teammates as he continues his road back from knee injuries that have sidelined him for nearly a year.
Islanders coach Scott Gordon said Monday that DiPietro has been on the ice and taking shots, but will soon move to full workouts with the team. Gordon said once the 28-year-old improves to a level the team is comfortable with, he will undergo his own two-week training camp.
DiPietro has been out of the Islanders lineup since January. He is in the fourth year of a 15-year, $67.5-million contract.
