The National Hockey League has fined Philadelphia Flyers forward Daniel Carcillo $2,500 for a throat-slash gesture made towards the Toronto Maple Leafs bench on Wednesday night.
Carcillo, who is a considered a repeat offender under the NHL's disciplinary guidelines, made the gesture after scoring his second-period goal to put the Flyers up 3-0. The rugged forward made a nice move on the goal, skating around a sprawling Luke Schenn before going forehand to backhand. Philadelphia went on to win the game 6-2.
It was an eventful night for Carcillo. In addition to scoring a goal, the Flyers forward was chirping at the Leafs bench throughout the night and was involved in a third-period fight with Jamal Mayers.
The Flyers followed up their win over Toronto with a 7-4 victory in Pittsburgh on Thursday night. Carcillo was held off the scoresheet in just over 11 minutes of ice time against the Penguins.
