Minnesota Wild enforcer Derek Boogaard will sit two games after a knee-on-knee hit to Edmonton's Ryan Jones on Friday night.
Boogaard was given a two minute penalty for kneeing on the play. Jones left the game and did not return.
"It wasn't like it was intent to injure or anything like that. I was just finishing my hit. It’s not like I’m going out to hurt guys," Boogaard said Saturday morning.
Boogaard learned of the suspension after a conference call with NHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Mike Murphy on Saturday.
Boogaard was suspended five games last season after elbowing Calgary's Brandon Prust.
