Gold-medal donation
March 10, 2010

VANCOUVER -- Sidney Crosby is donating the $20,000 bonus he received for winning gold at the Vancouver Olympics to his foundation.
The star forward's overtime goal lifted Canada to a 3-2 win over the Americans in the gold-medal game last month.
The Sidney Crosby Foundation was launched in Nova Scotia last year. It provides financial support to local children's charities in the Cole Harbour native's home province.
All Canadian gold medallists received a $20,000 bonus from the Canadian Olympic Committee. Silver medallists received $15,000 while winning bronze was worth $10,000.
Olympic sponsor Bell Canada will match Crosby's donation.
Speedskater Clara Hughes announced during the Games that she was donating her $10,000 bonus for winning bronze in the 5,000 metres to "Take a Hike," a Vancouver-based organization that helps at-risk youth. Bell also matched that contribution.
