VANCOUVER -- Mikael Samuelsson and Alex Burrows added to their career scoring highs Saturday as the Vancouver Canucks beat the Ottawa Senators 5-1 for their sixth straight home-ice win.

Samuelsson, now playing on the top line with Daniel and Henrik Sedin, scored twice to reach 30 goals while Burrows ignited the Canucks with a short-handed goal to reach 31 on the season.

Daniel Sedin and Sami Salo got the other Vancouver goals.

Jason Spezza scored for Ottawa, but the Senators were left still looking for offence as they lost for the fifth time in six games with only four goals in those defeats.

The win marked the Canucks' return to GM Place from an NHL-record 14-game road trip while the 2010 Winter Olympics occupied their rink.

The 293rd consecutive sellout of 18,810 fans gave them a standing ovation when they took the ice.

Vancouver improved to 42-23-3 with their seventh win in their last 10 games and extended their Northwest Division lead to five points over second-place Colorado.

Ottawa, which has beaten only doormat Edmonton since the Olympic break, dropped to 37-27-5 and missed a chance to tie Buffalo for first in the Northeast Division.

Senators netminder Pascal Leclaire was shelled by the Canucks in the first period but only Samuelsson scored as Vancouver held a 17-2 edge in shots.

Samuelsson took Pavol Demitra's power-play pass in the slot and his quick release froze the Senators netminder.

Earlier in the period, a Rick Rypien shot trickled through Leclaire's pads but defender Andy Sutton cleared the puck off the goal line.

The only first-period shots from the sluggish Senators came on a power play but Leclaire's work enabled Spezza to tie the game on a rink-length dash three minutes into the second period.

Spezza, who scored in Ottawa's 3-1 win over Vancouver last month, faked out newly acquired Canuck defenceman Andrew Alberts and snapped a shot past goalie Roberto Luongo.

Burrows restored the lead with his fifth short-handed goal of the season to tie him for first in that category with Marian Hossa of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Samuelsson continued his torrid scoring with his ninth goal in six games to give the Canucks a 3-1 edge.

Daniel Sedin got the Canucks' second power-play goal before the second period ended when he took Henrik's goalmouth pass and guided the puck into an open net.

Salo scored during a delayed penalty in the third period on an assist from Samuelsson -- his third point of the night.

NOTES: Defenceman Kevin Bieksa returned to action after missing 27 games after left ankle tendons were severed by a skate cut ... Vancouver went 18-7-2 during that stretch ... Shane O'Brien was scratched to make way for Bieksa ... defenceman Nolan Baumgartner and forward Tanner Glass were the other healthy Canuck scratches ... Olympians on both clubs were saluted prior to the opening face-off ... Ottawa's last meeting with the Canucks extended the Sens' win streak to a season-high 11 games ... eight of Ottawa's remaining 13 games are on the road.
