VANCOUVER -- Red-hot Vancouver Canucks winger Mikael Samuelsson will be sidelined two to three weeks with a shoulder injury.

Samuelsson was injured during the third period of Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the New York Islanders and underwent an MRI on Wednesday. The Canucks recalled Michael Grabner from the AHL's Manitoba Moose to take his place.

The 33-year-old Samuelsson had been on a scoring tear and was recently named the NHL's first star of the week after notching six goals -- including his first career hat trick -- and 10 points in four games.

Samuelsson, signed in the off-season as a free agent after four years with the Detroit Red Wings, has reached the 30-goal plateau for the first time in his career.

It is Grabner's second NHL callup this season. The first ended after nine games, when he broke an ankle during a warmup kickaround with a soccer ball.

The 22-year-old was drafted 14th overall by the Canucks in 2006.

He had two goals and five points in his nine-game appearance with Vancouver earlier this season and scored 15 goals and 26 points in 38 games with the AHL's Manitoba Moose.

Last season, Grabner had 30 goals in 48 AHL games and added 10 more in 20 playoff contests.

Also Wednesday, the Canucks announced the signing of first-round pick Jordan Schroeder. The 20-year-old was taken 22nd overall last June.

Schroeder had nine goals and 28 points with the University of Minnesota this season after a 45-point season in his freshman year.

He also had three goals and eight points in seven games at the world junior championship and won a gold medal with the U.S. team.
