If Sheldon Souray truly wants out of Edmonton, head coach Pat Quinn will point him to the door.

Quinn responded to Souray's recent trade request with some terse words on Tuesday, pulling no punches in how he thinks Souray should proceed.

"If you don't want to play here, don't screw around. Get the hell out."

Souray made his intentions to leave Edmonton clear in an exclusive interview with sportsnet.ca on Sunday night, citing irreconcilable differences with management as the reason.

"Yes, I do want a trade," Souray said. "It's not a players' thing. It's not a fans thing or a city thing. It's a management thing," Souray said. "They've given up on me, and it's a two-way street.

Quinn added that successful teams exist around trust, and Souray's trade request means that relationship is dead for him in Edmonton.

"If you've got one guy sitting over there who doesn't want to bloody well be here, how do you build trust?" Quinn asked. "Look each other in the eyes and build trust."

Edmonton general manager Steve Tambellini will be actively peddling Souray this summer, something he couldn't do at the trade deadline because of a hand injury. However, if a suitable deal cannot be reached, Souray realizes he may have to open the season in Edmonton.

"I still have two years left on my contract. I made a commitment to come here when other guys wouldn't," he said. "But you talk about Prongs (Chris Pronger) and guys like that, and it should raise an eyebrow when players who leave town are skipping out with a smile on their face."

The Oilers finished dead last in the National Hockey League this season, but hope to be compensated for the on-ice futility on Tuesday night at the NHL Lottery Draft.
