He has tended the ailments of the Ottawa Senators and spent hours in operating theatres as one of the country's top orthopedic surgeons but on Sunday, Dr. Donald Chow was near death after a serious collision on Fisher Ave. the day before.

Sources said Chow -- the team doctor for the Ottawa Senators -- was in a coma in the intensive care unit at the Ottawa Hospital. The 53-year-old suffered massive head and chest injuries when his motorcycle collided with a car on Saturday.

Family was at his side, hospital officials said, and he remained in critical condition Sunday night.
