Christian Hanson was hoping for a one-way contract, a deal that would guarantee his money and put a little more pressure on the Maple Leafs to keep him in the big leagues.

But, whatever opportunities Hanson gets this season, he's going to have to earn on a Toronto roster that has become deeper through a series of off-season signings.

That, says Hanson, suits him just fine. He agreed to a one-year, two-way contract Tuesday that will pay him $650,000 (all figures U.S.) if he sticks with the big team, $105,000 if he plays for the Marlies. He earned $875,000 on the top end of his deal last season.
