Shutting the door

The Edmonton Oilers announced Monday that Sheldon Souray has been informed that he will not be attending training camp.
Souray has two years at $4.5 million a year remaining on his contract, but has requested a trade. Edmonton GM Steve Tambellini told sportsnet.ca he hopes to trade the hard-shooting blueliner before the start of training camp.
For his part, Souray says he is 100 percent healthy and ready to play.
Exactly where he'll play? Well, that's the question.
"I am back in Edmonton and skating with the guys and I'm eager to get going," Souray told sportsnet.can shortly after the Edmonton Oilers announced they have not invited him to training camp.
Souray, 34, was limited to just 37 games last season because of a concussion and scored four goal and 13 points. The season before, however, he scored 23 goals and two years before that he managed 26 goals for the Montreal Canadiens.
Souray said he was told by the Oilers he would not be invited to camp because the team is worried the situation will be a distraction to the other players.
"It's disappointing, but at the same time it's not exactly unexpected," Souray said. "I plan to continue to skate with the guys at our informal skates in preparation for the season."
Souray said he is 100 percent healthy and is looking forward to getting his career back on track.
"I'm a player and I'm looking forward to playing," he said. "I'm ready to go. I'm excited…eager to play again. All this does is get me more motivated to go. It just refreshes the beast."
