A little push for Roberto Luongo?

That’s exactly what his backup, Cory Schneider has provided for the Vancouver Canucks who are riding a five-game win streak.

Schneider, 24, is undefeated in regulation time this season at 6-0-2 and is riding a three-game win streak. The pair has been one of the NHL’s best goaltending tandems this season and a big reason why the Canucks are finally starting to reach their potential.

TW LW Team Our Take
3 Mason Raymond returns after missing 10 games with a broken thumb and helps the Canucks beat Colorado 2-1 with the game-winner – his eighth goal of the year.
2 The Flyers snap an 0-14-2 (since Nov. 4, 1998) streak at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit with an impressive 3-2 victory over the Red Wings Sunday.
1 The good news: Jordan Staal is finally healthy and playing. The bad news: The Penguins are in a bit of a funk at 5-4-1 in their last 10.
4 Injuries continue to dog the Red Wings as Brad Stuart joins the list after being nailed by a shot from Philadelphia’s Jeff Carter.
5 The Lightning get the jump on the trade deadline by acquiring veteran goaltender Dwayne Roloson from the New York Islanders.
7 A win at the Winter Classic and a strong performance from Alexander Ovechkin could be a launching point for the inconsistent Caps.
6 Kari Lehtonen has certainly done his share for the emerging Dallas Stars this season and a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues snaps a personal four-game losing streak.
9 Dustin Byfuglien’s 16th goal of the season in overtime gives the Thrashers a 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens.
10 With two straight wins and six in their past 10 games the Sharks are finally starting to look like a threat in the West.
15 Tyler Seguin snaps a six-game pointless streak with a goal and an assist in a 7-6 shootout loss to the Sabres.
19 Jonas Hiller makes 19 third period saves to run his and Anaheim’s winning streak to three straight.
13 After nine straight wins in back-to-back games, the Rangers succumb to the Florida Panthers, losing 3-0.
18 Shea Weber scores a goal and adds two assists as the Predators run their home winning streak over Columbus to 15 games.
8 The Kings outshoot the San Jose Sharks 29-19, but wind up on the short end of a 1-0 decision; their third loss in a row.
16 The injury-riddled Blues allow three unanswered third period goals in a 4-2 loss to the Dallas Stars.
11 A six-game winning streak is followed by a nasty 1-4-1 run for the Avalanche who are 0-3-1 in their past four home games.
14 The Habs continue to tinker with their blueline adding James Wisniewski and Brett Festerling.
21 Goaltending continues to be the Blue Jackets' Achilles Heal as they drop a second-straight game to remain four points out of a playoff spot.
23 Jeff Skinner’s magical rookie season continues with two goals as the Canes win their third straight beating New Jersey 6-3.
12 The Blackhawks outshoot the Ducks 19-2 in the third period, but still drop their third straight game 2-1.
21 Fans have turned on the Wild who are 3-6-1 at home in its past 10 games including a 4-1 loss to Nashville New Year’s Eve. Fortunately, the Wild bounced back with a thrilling 6-5 road win over Phoenix.
17 Captain Shane Doan has points in six straight games and 21 points in his last 19 games.
24 The Flames win their final two games under GM Darryl Sutter and continue with two more wins under acting GM Jay Feaster.
26 Drew Stafford fires three goals as the Sabres edge their rivals from Boston 7-6 in a wild affair.
20 You have to wonder exactly how long owner Eugene Melnyk will watch this team continue to flounder before he snaps and makes changes.
25 Tomas Vokoun’s fifth shutout of the season helps the Panthers beat the Rangers 3-0 to improve to 4-1-2 in their last seven starts.
27 James Reimer beats the Ottawa Senators 5-1 in his first NHL start.
29 The Islanders have won two straight and are 6-3-1 in their last 10.
