The Boston Bruins have signed defenceman Andrew Bodnarchuk to a one-year contract extension, the team announced on Friday.
The 5'11", 185-pound defenceman spent the past three seasons with the Providence Bruins. In the 2010-2011 season, he set professional career highs in games played (75), assists (15), and points (16) for the P Bruins.
In 2009-2010, Bodnarchuk made his NHL debut with Boston and appeared in five NHL games. He registered five goals and 10 assists in 70 games with the P Bruins in 2009-10 and was also named the Providence Bruins Best Defenceman.
Born in Drumheller, AB, the 23-year old was originally drafted by the Bruins in the fifth round (128th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He is expected to join the Bruins in their full training camp which begins on Sept. 16.
