GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Phoenix Coyotes have signed centre Martin Hanzal to a five-year contract extension and made three roster moves to get down to 23 players before the start of the season.
Phoenix assigned goalie Curtis McElhinney and defenceman Nathan Oystrick to Portland of the AHL on Thursday and placed right wing Brett MacLean on waivers. MacLean was later claimed by Winnipeg.
Hanzal had 16 goals and 10 assists last season, but was limited to 61 games due to a lower-body injury. He has 46 goals and 79 assists over four seasons with Phoenix. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
Phoenix opens the season Saturday at San Jose.
