The Montreal Canadiens signed defenceman Joe Callahan to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced on Friday. The Hamilton Bulldogs also announced that goaltender Nicola Riopel, defenceman Tony DeHart and forward Ben Winnett have been released from their tryout contracts.
Callahan, 28, played 27 games with the Florida Panthers in the 2010-2011 season. He finished with one assist and 12 penalty minutes.
The native of Brockton, Massachusetts also played in 48 games with the Rochester Americans compiling 13 points and 12 penalty minutes.
Callahan was drafted in the 3rd round, 70th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
