Ottawa Senators fans should not expect to see Daniel Alfredsson in the lineup any time soon.
Speaking for the first time since suffering a concussion on Saturday, Alfredsson told reporters there is no timetable for his return because he is still dealing with symptoms on a daily basis.
"If I'm at home with the kids and I do too much, I get light-headed and a little dizzy and I have to sit down for a bit. And then I feel ok again. Until that's gone, I'm not going to do anything physically," Alfredsson said.
"It's the first time I've had a concussion and it feels different. I haven't had any headaches -- which is good. But I still have symptoms and I haven't done any exercises since Saturday."
Alfredsson suffered a concussion when he was hit by New York Rangers forward Wojtek Wolski in the third period of Saturday afternoon's game at Madison Square Garden. Wolski escaped suspension from league disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan earlier this week after he deemed the hit to be accidental contact.
Alfredsson had a phone conversation with Shanahan, where both parties explained their perspectives on the hit.
"He explained their position and their process they went through in not going any further. I said that I understood -- I don't totally agree. But no matter what they (NHL) do, they're going to get (expleteive)," Alfredsson said when asked about the lack of a suspension in this case. "I thought (Wolski) could have avoided the whole situation and they thought it was accidental. I have no problem with their decision."
For his part Wolski has not reached out to Alfredsson to apologize, nor does the Senators captain believe he needs to hear from the Rangers forward.
"I don't think his intention is to hit me in the head. But I've seen it a few times and he tries to lean into me a bit. It's not a blatant elbow. I can't say it's a dirty play, but it could have been avoided."
