Defenceman Cory Sarich has requested a trade from Calgary Flames, reports Sportsnet analyst Rhett Warrener.

Sarich, who has been an integral part of the Flames’ defensive core since the 2007-08 season, has played 15 games so far this season, totalling one assist and 25 penalty minutes. His plus-minus is even.

Over the course of his time in Alberta, Sarich has scored 51 points and is a plus-29.

The 33-year-old native of Saskatoon, Sask., was originally drafted in the second round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. Before coming to Calgary, he played with the Stanley Cup-winning Tampa Bay Lightning team of 2003-04.

Sarich signed a five-year contract with the Flames on July 1, 2007.
