Tebowmania made its way to the National Hockey League on Monday night.
After Los Angeles Kings defenceman Jack Johnson scored against the Washington Capitals on Monday night, he celebrated the goal by imitating Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow's popular pose, which is commonly known as "Tebowing."
Johnson, who watched Tebow's comeback victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, said he was asked by his friends to take part in the celebration.
"It's fun to score. You should have fun," Johnson told the Los Angeles Times. "Have some personality out there and have fun."
Caps defenceman Karl Alzner wasn't impressed with Johnson and thought he was making a mockery of the game.
"I understand he's just trying to be funny, but still it's kind of a stupid
celebration," Alzner explained. "It's like those teams in the world junior riding their stick giving high-fives across the bench."
Kings coach Darryl Sutter didn't appear amused at first when Johnson originally paid tribute to the Broncos' quarterback, but after the game Sutter showed a sense of humour about the matter.
"If we could all play like (Tim) Tebow in a big game, we wouldn't have lost a game yet," Sutter said.
