Out with the old venue, in with the new

EDMONTON -- A company that's overseen construction of arenas in a number of National Hockey League cities has been named project manager in a bid to build a new home for the Edmonton Oilers.
City council in Edmonton has appointed U.S.-based ICON Venue Group to be in charge of building a proposed downtown arena capable of seating 18,400 people.
The projected cost of the project is $450 million.
ICON has worked on arenas that include the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Jobing.com Arena in Phoenix, the Pepsi Center in Denver and the Prudential Center in New Jersey.
The city is continuing negotiations with another U-S.-based company, 360 Architecture, for design work on the building.
It's hoped that construction can get underway next year. (CHED)
