Eriksson's broken-stick goal: watch
Loui Eriksson waves his broken stick as he skates back to the bench following his broken-stick goal against Detroit Red Wings goalie Ty Conklin in the first period of Tuesday’s game.
Replay of the Day: In baseball, the broken-bat single in a fairly common occurrence. In hockey, however, the broken-stick goal is a rarer beast.
As per NHL rule, a player must immediately drop his stick to the ice if it breaks. So the image of Dallas Stars winger Loui Eriksson raising his arms and celebrating his goal empty-handed is a bizarre one.
Watch as Eriksson’s stick snaps in half, but the puck still has enough on it to beat Red Wings netminder Ty Conklin.
