Shanahan's disciplinary tweets
Edmonton Oilers forward Ales Hemsky will not be suspended for a knee-on-knee collision with San Jose Sharks defenceman Brent Burns that occurred on Monday. Hemsky received a kneeing penalty on the play and Burns left the ice injured.
The National Hockey League's senior vice president of player safety Brendan Shanahan sent out the following tweet Tuesday on whether Hemsky would be punished further: "Hemsky/Burns: Spoke to Sharks staff. Knee collision unintentional. No history for Hemsky until now (on record). Penalty on ice sufficient."
Boston Bruins forward Nathan Horton suffered a mild concussion following a hit from Tom Sestito in the Bruins 6-5 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday.
Horton was ruled out of Tuesday's game against the Florida Panthers and it is unknown how long the 26-year-old will remain out of the lineup.
"Sestito/Horton: Hit was .6 seconds after puck released. Hit makes principal point of contact to left shoulder. Not the head. No (supplementary discipline)," Shanahan tweeted.
During Saturday's Detroit-Columbus game Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg took Blue Jackets defenceman Nikita Nikitin into the end boards in a dangerous play that saw Nikitin fall awkwardly into the boards behind the goal line. Zetterberg was assessed a five-minute boarding major and a ten-minute misconduct.
Like Hemsky and Sestito, Zetterberg will receive no further punishment.
Shanahan tweeted: "Zetterberg/Nikitin: Spoke to players/GMs involved. Both players asserted there was NO push. Penalty has since been rescinded by Officiating."
