Niittymaki available for trade
Antero Niittymaki cleared waivers on Thursday, according to a report from the San Jose Mercury News.
The Sharks have been showcasing the veteran goalie for a trade but have not been able to find any takers so far.
"I know they've been working hard to find a place for me to play," Niittymaki told the Mercury News. "It's probably not as easy as it sounds because I've been out with the (hip) surgery and I've only played games in the minors."
Sharks GM Doug Wilson said there is some interest in Niittymaki but the teams do not have the cap space to complete a deal.
He will remain with the club as the third goalie. Thomas Greiss and Antti Niemi currently rank higher on the depth chart.
San Jose is unlikely to send the 30-year-old to Worcester of the AHL because they would prefer their prospects to play instead.
