Interesting pairing
When you hear Tyler Seguin and Phil Kessel in the same sentence, most likely it's about the 2008 trade between the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
This time, it's about them playing on a line together at the 2012 NHL All-Star Game.
Seguin will centre a line between Kessel and Joffrey Lupul as Team Chara takes on Team Alfredsson Sunday.
On Sept. 18, 2009, the Bruins traded Kessel to the Leafs in exchange for their first and second-round draft picks in 2010, as well as a first-round draft pick in 2011 - which turned out to be Tyler Seguin, Jared Knight and Dougie Hamilton.
Since the trade, Seguin has played 120 games with the Bruins, posting 65 points. He amassed 22 points in 74 games during the 2010-11 season.
Seguin was a healthy scratch for the first two rounds of the 2011 NHL playoffs. He was put into the lineup to start the Eastern Conference Final, after Patrice Bergeron sustained a mild concussion. Seguin scored a goal and added an assist in his first game, and followed that up with two goals and two assists in the second.
He tallied seven points in 13 games as the Bruins went on to defeat the Vancouver Canucks to capture the Stanley Cup.
This season, Seguin has 43 points in 46 games.
Kessel has played a key factor for the Leafs. Since joining the Buds, he's recorded 170 points in 201 games.
Though the Leafs haven't reached the post-season since 2003-04, they are currently in the running to break the six-year drought as they sit ninth in the Eastern Conference with 55 points in 49 games.
Much of the Leafs success this season comes from the chemistry between Kessel and linemate Lupul.
The duo has a combined 103 points.
Kessel has 26 goals and 25 assists in his sixth NHL season, putting him on pace to shatter his career-bests in goals, assists and points.
