NEW YORK -- Vancouver Canucks centre Cody Hodgson has been named the NHL's rookie of the month for January.
The 21-year-old led all rookies in scoring with 10 points (six goals, four assists) in 11 games.
Hodgson edged Philadelphia Flyers forwards Sean Couturier and Matt Read, Ottawa Senators forward Colin Greening, Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw and Nashville Predators defenceman Ryan Ellis.
Hodgson delivered clutch performances against Vancouver's fiercest rivals last month, scoring the game-winning goals in victories over the Boston Bruins and the San Jose Sharks.
He closed the month by adding the game-tying goal Tuesday on a breakaway in the third period of what ended as a 3-2 overtime victory against the Chicago Blackhawks.
The goal was Hodgson's 14th of the season, second among NHL rookies behind Read (15).
Hodgson ranks fourth in the rookie scoring race with 30 points (14 goals, 16 assists) in 50 games and is second among rookies in power-play goals (five).
