DETROIT -- Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is expected to miss seven to 10 days due to a left shoulder injury.

The 18-year-old rookie was hurt after taking a hit from Mike Brown early in the third period of Monday's 6-3 loss to the Maple Leafs in Toronto. The Oilers pulled him from the game as a precaution and he was re-examined Tuesday in Detroit.

"We were both going for the puck and just collided ... landed shoulder on shoulder," Nugent-Hopkins said. "I could feel it as soon as I got hit. My shoulder kind of dropped and I could feel it.

"It's the same area, it's the same shoulder, but it's a new thing on top."

Nugent-Hopkins had just returned to the lineup Saturday after missing a month of action. He has 13 goals and 22 assists in 40 games this season.

Edmonton will play the Red Wings on Wednesday night.

The Oilers have recalled Magnus Paajarvi from AHL Oklahoma City. He has four assists in 33 games with Edmonton this season.
