Red Wings players hit the ice at Comerica Park

The Detroit Red Wings got their first taste of the outdoor conditions they'll be playing in on New Year's Day after a practice at Comerica Park.

In anticipation of this year’s Winter Classic between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit held practice at Comerica Park on Wednesday.

The practice lasted for an hour and was open to the public. The event was also streamed live on NHL.com.

This was an opportunity for fans to come out and watch the team skate and go through a number of light drills.

The swarm of media in attendance got an up close and personal look at the action.

Of course, HBO was on hand.

All of the lead up to this year’s Winter Classic will be chronicled on HBO’s acclaimed series 24/7, which you can see on Sportsnet.
