DeBoer fills out coaching staff, adds Foligno

NEWARK, N.J. — Mike Foligno has joined the New Jersey Devils as an assistant coach.

General manager Lou Lamoriello announced the appointment to Pete DeBoer’s staff Friday. Foligno replaces Matt Shaw, who left to become head coach of Dubuque in the USHL.

Foligno spent last season as an assistant coach with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL. He had been an assistant with Anaheim, Colorado and Toronto in the NHL. The 54-year-old has head coaching experience with the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL and Colorado’s AHL affiliate in Hershey.

Foligno, who played 15 seasons in the NHL with Detroit, Buffalo, Toronto and Florida, began his professional coaching career with St. John’s in the AHL in 1995-96.
