Marlies sign college free agent Shane Conacher to ATO

Mike Babcock came into Toronto preaching that things are going to get worse before they got better. But the present isn't nearly as dark as he had predicted.

The Toronto Marlies have signed undrafted college free agent Shane Conacher to an amateur tryout agreement.

Conacher just finished his junior year at Canisius College where he scored 20 goals and 46 points in 39 games and was named to the Atlantic Conference’s First All-Star Team.

He briefly crossed paths with Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Mitch Marner on the OJHL’s St. Michael’s Buzzers in the 2012-13 season.

The newest addition to the Leafs’ organization is the younger brother of Cory Conacher, who spent three seasons in the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Ottawa Senators and New York Islanders before signing with SC Bern of Switzerland’s National League A.

Shane will make his Marlies debut Saturday, playing on a line with Rich Clune and Frederik Gauthier.
