Leddy, Pirri help IceHogs rally past Heat

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Nick Leddy and Brandon Pirri scored in the third period as the Rockford IceHogs rallied past the Abbotsford Heat 3-2 on Saturday in American Hockey League action.

Leddy tied the game 2-2 at the 7:33 mark of the final period and Pirri scored the winner less than five minutes later.

Ben Smith scored for Rockford (15-13-2) in the first, while Carter Hutton made 31 saves for the win.

Krys Kolanos had back-to-back goals in the opening period to give Abbotsford (15-8-6) a 2-0 lead. Goaltender Danny Taylor stopped 28 of 31 shots.

Kolanos’ first goal was the Heat’s only power-play marker on five chances. The IceHogs could not score on five man advantages.
