Colborne back for Marlies against Americans

The Toronto Marlies will have one of their most skilled forwards back in the lineup as they take on the Rochester Americans Saturday night at the Ricoh Coliseum.

Joe Colborne has struggled this season, registering just one goal and six points in 18 games. The 22-year-old knows what he needs to do to improve his output and has been working on certain things in practice this week to make sure he can contribute more effectively on the ice.

“I’ve been getting frustrated a little bit,” Colborne told the Marlies official website. “It’s just going back to the basics and making sure we’re bearing down on chances and little things like hitting the net, find your corners, pick them, and hopefully it will translate into a few goals.”

Despite Colborne’s struggles on the ice, the Marleis have won three in a row. In the team’s last outing they beat the Lake Erie Monsters 5-4 in regulation in a game where Jake Gardiner and Ryan Hamilton each had two goals.

Against the Americans, centre Mike Zigomanis is out, while defenceman Mark Fraser returns to the lineup.

The Americans are coming off a 3-1 loss to the Adirondack Phantoms Friday night.

Toronto currently sits in third place in the North Division, while the Americans are fourth.
