Perhaps inspired by his Brandon Wheat Kings being named hosts of the 2010 Memorial Cup, Jay Fehr helped his team acquire five of a possible six points while taking the WHL's hot player nomination. Meanwhile, a Shawinigan duo are heating up and quickly becoming the QMJHL's most potent scoring line.

Western Hockey League

Hot team: Saskatoon Blades

The Blades are probably hoping their schedule would have been tougher on them last week as the red-hot team won in their only game. Saskatoon won their seventh-consecutive game of the season as they trail Swift Current by two points for top spot in the East Division. Saskatoon will have a tough test with four games this week.

Hot player: Jay Fehr, Brandon Wheat Kings

The 19-year-old forward has been climbing up the scoring chart this season after another impressive week. Fehr, who has no relation to former Wheat King Eric Fehr, scored five goals and added four assists for nine points in three games. Two of his goals were insurance markers as he helped his team keep pace in the strong East Division.

Cold team: Portland Winter Hawks

New owner Bill Gallacher will have a tough time turning the franchise around as the Winter Hawks' losing streak has now reached eight games. Although the losses continue to mount, Portland can take comfort in the fact their scoring has picked up. The Winter Hawks scored seven goals in three games last week after scoring just five in their seven previous games.

Cold player: Dalyn Flette, Edmonton Oil Kings

Although he recorded a win in one of three starts, Flette had a rather shaky week in goal for the Oil Kings. Flette allowed 17 goals on 75 shots for a 0.815 save percentage. Although it's still early this season, Edmonton will need their goaltender to step up his effort for them to stay in contention for their first playoff spot in franchise history.

This week's key match-up: Vancouver Giants vs. Lethbridge Hurricanes, Saturday

The Giants will play the toughest game of their road trip against another championship-caliber opponent. Vancouver has yet to lose a game in regulation as their three losses this season all came in shootouts. The Hurricanes, meanwhile, received some great news in the form of the addition of overage forward Mitch Fadden. Lethbridge also acquired former Kelowna goaltender Torrie Jung who could be given the start given his familiarity with the Giants.

Québec Major Junior Hockey League

Hot team: Québec Remparts

Patrick Roy's team is firing on all cylinders early this season. The Remparts' only loss of the season came in their second game as they have now won their 10th consecutive game of the season. Québec outscored the opposition 12-5 in their two games last week while they're a win shy of tying a league record for most road wins to begin a season.

Hot player: Cédric Lalonde-McNicoll, Shawinigan Cataractes

It would be an understatement to say Lalonde-McNicoll is enjoying his overage season with his new linemate Matthew Pistilli. The duo both had a 10-point week with Lalonde-McNicoll scoring twice with eight assists in three games. Lalonde-McNicoll gets the slight edge over Pistilli for hot player of the week given that both his goals were game winners.

Cold team: Lewiston MAINEiacs

The MAINEiacs become only the second team to be named the QMJHL's cold team of the week after the Val-d'Or Foreurs held that spot until this point. Lewiston lost all three games at home last week while goaltender Peter Delmas struggled. Sniper Maxime Gratchev, who was acquired from Rimouski earlier this season, failed to record a point while the team has now lost four straight.

Cold player: Antoine Lafleur, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies

Although his second start of the week resulted in a win against the Lewiston MAINEiacs, Lafleur has failed to provide the steady, reliable goaltending the Huskies were hoping for when they acquired him from P.E.I. Lafleur was beat 11 times through two games on 57 shots for a 0.807 save percentage.

This week's key match-up: Drummondville Voltigeurs vs. Québec Remparts, Friday

The Voltigeurs are one of the league's early pleasant surprises but may have fallen back down to earth last week. Drummondville was beat handily by another elite team, the Shawinigan Cataractes, 7-0 on Tuesday. The Remparts, meanwhile, will present Drummondville with a bigger test as Québec has lost just one game this season and are riding a 10-game winning streak.

Ontario Hockey League

Hot team: Windsor Spitfires

The league-leading Spitfires kept their impressive winning streak alive last week, winning all four games including three on their northern Ontario road swing. The Spitfires have lost just once this season while goaltender Andrew Engelage has come into his own with two shutouts last week.

Hot player: Justin DiBenedetto, Sarnia Sting

Despite playing six fewer games than Oshawa's John Tavares this season, DiBenedetto is nipping at his heels for the league's scoring race. The overage forward and former first round priority selection pick had his second huge week, recording three goals and six assists in just two games with a plus-2 rating.

Cold team: Peterborough Petes

The young Petes lineup continued taking their lumps after dropping all three games last week. Peterborough has remained competitive, however, as two of their losses were by one goal with the other being a two-goal decision against Niagara. Peterborough remains tied with Kingston for last place in the East Division and Eastern Conference.

Cold player: Logan Couture, Ottawa 67's

The 19-year-old forward, who some felt could compete for the league's scoring crown this season, has had a slow start to his fourth season. Couture recorded just a single assist through three games last week with a minus-3 rating. Ottawa will need Couture to regain his scoring prowess to compete with Belleville and Oshawa for top spot in the East Division.

This week's key match-up: Guelph Storm vs. Windsor Spitfires, Thursday

The resurgent Storm will face a big test against the red-hot Spitfires. Guelph had one of the quicker starts this season but hasn't been able to maintain their lead over London for top spot in the Midwest Division. This will be a big game for the Storm against the early-season favourites. This game could be interesting as the talented Spitfires offence will go up against one of junior hockey's top goaltenders in Thomas McCollum and the defensively-savvy Storm.
