Sources tell Sportsnet that the Oshawa Generals continue to talk to as many as five teams in an attempt to trade junior phenom John Tavares by Friday's Ontario Hockey League trade deadline.

Speculation has Belleville, Guelph, Windsor, Brampton and London all vying for the forward's services, with London the front-runner and Guelph a close second.

The Oakville, Ont., native traveled with the Generals to Belleville and was in Oshawa's lineup Wednesday night against the Bulls.

Tavares, considered the No. 1 prospect in this June's NHL Entry Draft, could fetch the Generals as many as five or six key assets in return. Tavares was recently named MVP at the world junior hockey tournament in Ottawa as he led Canada to its fifth consecutive gold medal.

Tavares has 25 goals and 27 assists in 31 games with the Generals, who are 18-15-1-4 and sit third in the East Division this season. He is expected to play with the Generals Wednesday night in Belleville against the Bulls.
