WINDSOR, Ont. -- Taylor Hall of the Windsor Spitfires scored the game winner in his home rink as the Ontario Hockey League all stars defeated Russian Selects 5-2 Monday in the fourth game of the Super Series.
Canada's junior all stars improved to 4-0 in the series. The Quebec Major Junior League all stars won the first two games, and Monday's win gave the OHL a sweep in its two-game set.
Adam Henrique opened the scoring in the first period after he and his Spitfire teammates Hall and Greg Nemisz wreaked havoc by crashing the Russian net.
Current OHL player of the week Tyler Toffoli of the Ottawa 67's scored on a power play to put his team up 2-0.
Hall, the leading scorer in the Canadian Hockey League, scored unassisted when he intercepted a clearing pass just outside the Russian blue-line and deked around a Russian defenceman before depositing a backhander behind Alexander Zalivan.
"I moved to intercept the puck and moved around their D as quickly as I could," said Hall. "I moved in to take the shot, but I also knew that Henrique was in a perfect position for the rebound if it did not go in."
Hall hopes his performance in the Super Series will help him get a spot on the national junior team.
"It was a huge disappointment when I didn't make the team last year," Hall said. "Hopefully a game like tonight boosts my chances this year."
London Knights forward Nazem Kadri, the first round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs last summer, scored on a short-handed unassisted effort in the third period.
Kirill Petrov and Kirill Kitsyn scored for the Russians before Zack Kassian of the Peterborough Petes scored with 96 seconds left in the game to settle the affair.
Both goaltenders put on a goaltending clinic in the game. Matt Hackett of the Plymouth Whalers made 29 saves to pick up the win, and many of them were spectacular. Zalivan was just as stellar while making 42 stops at the other end.
