SASKATOON -- Andre Petersson scored a hat trick and Jakob Silfverberg and Daniel Brodin added two goals each as Sweden used a big first period to pound Switzerland 11-4 in the bronze medal game Tuesday at the world junior hockey championship.
Dennis Rasmussen, Anton Lander, Mattias Tedenby and David Rundblad also scored for Sweden, which lost in last year's final to Canada.
Michael Loichat, Dominik Schlumpf, Jeffrey Fuglister and Nino Niederreiter replied for the Swiss, who were looking for their first medal at the tournament since 1998.
The Swedes led 5-0 after the first period and 7-0 early in the second before Switzerland got on the board to bring the score to within 9-4, but Petersson completed his hat trick late in the period.
Rundblad had the only goal in the third as the Swedes cruised the rest of the way in front of 12,121 in attendance.
Switzerland was the preferred country at the Credit Union Centre as the Swiss received louder ovations for their goals than the Swedes.
Swiss forward Jeffrey Fuglister was booed every time he touched the puck, however, because he checked Canadian defenceman Travis Hamonic into the boards late in the semifinal. Hamonic suffered a shoulder injury that took him out of the gold-medal game.
