As first reported by sportsnet.ca, Canadian world junior silver medallist Alex Pietrangelo has been traded from the Niagara IceDogs to the Barrie Colts.

Pietrangelo will head to Barrie along with disgruntled forward Chris DeSousa, who has not played since November. Goaltender Petteri Simila (Montreal draft pick) is also included in the package.

The package headed back to Niagara includes forward Ryan Strome, Danish defenceman Simon Gronvaldt, two second-round picks, a third-round pick and a ninth round pick.

Strome was the No. 1 pick, eighth overall, by the Colts in last May's priority selection.

Pietrangelo, whose NHL rights belong to St. Louis, was assigned by the Blues to the IceDogs on Wednesday.

The moves come after Pietrangelo earned a silver medal with Canada's national team following a 6-5 overtime loss to the United States in the world junior hockey championship game Tuesday night.

Pietrangelo led all defenceman in scoring in the tournament with 12 points (three goals, nine assists).

He was also named the tournament's top defenceman.

Prior to taking part in the world junior tournament, Pietrangelo had a goal and an assist in nine games with the Blues.
