WINDSOR, Ont. -- Adam Henrique scored twice and added an assist as the defending Memorial Cup champion Windsor Spitfires outclassed the Erie Otters in just about every way, winning 6-2 Thursday night to take a 1-0 lead in their Ontario Hockey League Western Conference quarter-final series.

Justin Shugg opened the scoring for the Spitfires midway through the first period when his sharp-angle shot beat screened Erie goaltender Adam Courchaine.

Greg McKegg tied the game for the Otters five minutes into the second period when he converted a pass from Shawn Szydlowski on a short-handed odd-man rush. The goal came on Erie's fifth shot of the game and first of the period.

Dale Mitchell restored Windsor's lead when he jumped on a turnover and streaked down the ice to one-time a pass from Taylor Hall.

Zack Kassian and Henrique both scored to give the Spitfires a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes. Kassian's goal was his fifth in five games since returning from a 20-game suspension for a hit on Barrie's Matt Kennedy.

Henrique, with his second of the game, and Marc Cantin scored for Windsor in the third period, while Anthony Luciani replied for Erie. Philipp Grubauer made 19 saves for Windsor.

Hall chipped in with three assists, while Mitchell and Eric Wellwood both had a pair of helpers.

Courchaine stopped 42 shots for the Otters.

The series resumes Sunday in Erie.

Barrie Colts 11, Sudbury Wolves 4:

BARRIE, Ont. -- Alexander Burmistrov scored twice and added two assists as the Barrie Colts throttled the Sudbury Wolves 11-4 Thursday in their first-round OHL playoff opener.

The Colts were nearly unbeatable at home during the regular season, going 30-2-2, and extended that dominance into their first post-season game.

Burmistrov, who is eligible for the 2010 NHL entry draft, scored less than five minutes apart in the first period to give the Colts a 2-1 lead. Zac Rinaldo made it 3-1 just 41 seconds later, and Matt Kennedy extended the lead 1:10 after that.

The Colts scored the first four goals of the second period, chasing Sudbury starting goaltender Andrew Loverock. Backup Alain Valiquette didn't fare much better, surrendering six goals over the final 35 minutes.

Game 2 in the best-of-seven series goes Saturday night in Sudbury.

Kennedy, Alex Hutchings and Dalton Prout each had a goal and two assists in the rout, while Luke Pither, Bryan Cameron, Kyle Clifford and Taylor Carnevale added a goal and an assist apiece. Stefan Della Rovere added a single, while St. Louis Blues prospect Alex Pietrangelo chipped in three assists.

John McFarland scored twice to pace the Wolves, while Marcus Foligno had a goal and an assist and Kain Allicock added a single. Matias Sointu had three assists.

Peter Di Salvo made 26 saves for Barrie, while Loverock and Valiquette combined to stop 36 shots for Sudbury.
