TORONTO -- Mississauga-St. Michael's Majors veteran Chris Carrozzi is the Ontario Hockey League's goaltender of the year.
Carrozzi, a 20-year-old from Nepean, Ont., posted a 19-10-5 record for the Majors this year, and finished tied atop the OHL with five shutouts. His 2.36 goals-against average was second-best in the league, and he finished fourth among netminders with a .916 save percentage.
Carrozzi, a sixth-round pick of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2008 NHL draft, is the first Majors goalie to win the award since Andy Chiodo in 2003.
"It feels great to win this award and I owe a big thank you to the Majors organization and to my teammates for helping me this season," Carrozzi said in a statement. "We are a very defensive team that always worked hard, and it is nice to get some recognition this year for how well our team played."
The Majors goaltending duo of Carrozzi and JP Anderson combined to help Mississauga-St. Michael's allow the fewest regular-season goals in the league (175).
"Chris put the work in for four years and earned this award over some very elite goaltenders in this league," Majors head coach and general manager Dave Cameron said in a statement. "He is a valuable part of our organization and this award is a testament to his hard work."
Carrozzi received 59 points in the voting process, ahead of Matt Hackett of the Plymouth Whalers (48) and Patrick Killeen of the Brampton Battalion (27).
