Several huge tilts headline the week ahead in the CHL.

The future is not far for the Ottawa Senators. Their top pick in the 2009 draft, defenceman Jared Cowen, is enjoying such a productive season that it's hard to imagine he doesn't factor into the Senators' top six next season.

Meanwhile, several huge tilts headline the week ahead, including a game on Sportsnet Ontario between Owen Sound and Kitchener.

    Québec Major Junior Hockey League

    Hot team: Gatineau Olympiques

    RELATED

The Olympiques haven't exactly been world-beaters since acquiring the league's leading scorer, Philip-Michael Devos, at the trade deadline. However, Gatineau is starting to turn it on down the stretch with five straight wins and eight in their last 10 games. It might be too little too late in terms of playoff seeding, as Gatineau will likely finish no better than third in the Telus West Division.

Cold team: Cape Breton Screaming Eagles

The Screaming Eagles aren't playing with the type of desperation one might expect with one playoff spot remaining. Cape Breton has the inside track on the final spot, but seems intent on backing into the post-season with losses in the last three games and two wins in the last 10. The Screaming Eagles lead Baie-Comeau by eight points for the final spot with four games left.

Game of the week: Drummondville Voltigeurs vs. Montreal Juniors, Friday

The race for first in the Telus West Division standings is among the few remaining storylines in the league this season. The Voltigeurs are among the league's hottest teams with nine wins in their last 10 games. The Juniors, meanwhile, could be haunted by a less than stellar weekend with losses to rebuilding teams in Rouyn-Noranda and Val-d'Or. Drummondville now sits just five points back with four games left in their schedule, and five remaining in Montreal's. If the Voltigeurs are going to take the division, a regulation victory over the Juniors is nearly a must.

    Canadian NHL teams' QMJHL prospects:

Louis Leblanc, Montreal (Montreal) - drafted 18th overall in 2009

Leblanc saw his six-game goal-scoring streak snapped when his team went north for games in Rouyn-Noranda and Val-d'Or. He picked up an assist in a shootout loss to the Foreurs on Sunday. He has 55 points in 47 games this season.

Olivier Roy, Edmonton (Acadie-Bathurst) - drafted 133rd overall in 2009

Roy looked solid against his former team, the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, in an 8-1 win on Friday. He was less stellar against the defending league champion Moncton Wildcats where he allowed four goals in a loss. His weekly save percentage was .929.

Jakub Culek, Ottawa (Rimouski) - drafted 76th overall in 2010

Culek reached the 20-point plateau this season with an assist on Jerome Gauthier-Leduc's goal in a 6-2 win over Chicoutimi on Friday. Culek won't likely reach his point total set from last season when he put up 47 in 63 games with Rimouski.

Steven Anthony, Vancouver (Saint John) - drafted 187th overall in 2009

Anthony was held without a point in his only appearance, a 5-4 overtime win over Moncton on Friday. He already set a career-high with 55 points this season.

    Ontario Hockey League

Hot team: Mississauga St. Michael's Majors

The MasterCard Memorial Cup hosts appear to have shaken off their rust and returned to the force expected of the league's top team. The Majors extended their winning streak to four games after winning three in three nights last weekend. Mississauga won seven of its last 10 games and has the inside track on finishing first overall in league standings.

    Cold team: Sarnia Sting

The only thing uglier than the losing streak in Sarnia is the way the team is losing. The Sting's losing skid hit five games while they were outscored 40-12. Sarnia has very little to play for with six games remaining this season. The Sting will have another nice draft pick, but missed the playoffs for the second straight year.

Game of the week: Owen Sound Attack vs. Kitchener Rangers, Friday

Regular season meetings don't get much bigger than when the Rangers host the Attack in a game that will be broadcast on Sportsnet Ontario. Owen Sound begins the week two points ahead of the Rangers for top spot in the Western Conference and holds a game in hand. Both teams have identical 6-2-1-1 records in their last 10 games. The Attack already won the season series with four wins in five meetings, so it will be imperative for the Rangers to win this game if they're going to have a chance to finish first in the conference.

    Canadian NHL teams' OHL prospects:

Jerry D'Amigo, Toronto (Kitchener) - drafted 158th overall in 2009

D'Amigo continued racking up the points in spite of a goal-scoring drought now spanning five games. He picked up assists in three of four games last week with a plus-3 rating. He has 21 points in 16 games with Kitchener.

Jarred Tinordi, Montreal (London) - drafted 22nd overall in 2010

Tinordi experienced a couple rough outings against some elite teams last week. The rugged defenceman was a minus-4 through three games against Kitchener, Windsor and Mississauga.

Greg McKegg, Toronto (Erie) - drafted 62nd overall in 2010

McKegg set a personal best for points in a season after exploding offensively last week. He scored five times and added three assists for eight points in three games. His 87 points this season are two more than he had last season.

Alex Friesen, Vancouver (Niagara) - drafted 172nd overall in 2010

Friesen made an impact upon returning from injury last week. In three games, he scored once and had three assists with a plus-2 rating. His 60 points this season are tied with last year's output as his best career total.

    Western Hockey League

    Hot team: Chilliwack Bruins

The Bruins began claiming their stake on a playoff spot with their red-hot play of late. Chilliwack won its last five straight games and six of the past 10 to climb into third place in the B.C. Division standings. The Bruins are tied for sixth in the Western Conference standings, but lead last-place Seattle by just six points.

    Cold team: Calgary Hitmen

One season after winning their second league championship in franchise history, the Hitmen are poised to finish with the league's worst record. Calgary dropped its past six straight games and hasn't won since a shootout victory over Regina on Feb. 18. Calgary has just 43 points in 65 games this season.

Game of the week: Prince George Cougars vs. Seattle Thunderbirds, Saturday

These two teams are in a dogfight for the final playoff spots in the highly entertaining and unpredictable Western Conference. The Thunderbirds are in last with 59 points, but trail Prince George and Kamloops, who are tied for the eighth and final playoff spot, by just three points. Four of the eight playoff spots are already accounted for while the Vancouver Giants should clinch this week. Seattle has to pull out all the stops if they're going to be playing playoff hockey. The Cougars not only need a win to help separate themselves from the T-birds, but to keep pace with Kamloops.

    Canadian NHL teams' WHL prospects:

Jared Cowen, Ottawa (Spokane) - drafted ninth overall in 2009

Cowen continues to dazzle with offensive production few expected when he joined the league with a reputation as a fierce, defensive competitor. He had two goals and two assists last week, giving him 46 points on the season with a sparkling plus-42 rating.

Ryan Howse, Calgary (Chilliwack) - drafted 74th overall in 2009

Howse made amends for a slow start on the week with two goals and two assists following two games without points. He scored his 48th goal on the season in a 6-2 win over Portland on Sunday. His previous best was 47 from last season.

Curtis Hamilton, Edmonton (Saskatoon) - drafted 48th overall in 2010

Hamilton bounced back from being shut out in Moose Jaw a week earlier with two goals and five points in three games last week. His 78 points in 56 games this season are almost as impressive as his plus-46 rating.

Max Reinhart, Calgary (Kootenay) - drafted 64th overall in 2010

Perhaps fatigued from a long bus trip through the prairies, Reinhart saw a dip in his production last week. He had a pair of assists in a win over Prince Albert on Saturday after being held without a point in the first two games of the trip in Brandon and Moose Jaw.
