BOUCHERVILLE, Que. -- The Shawinigian Cataractes have acquired the rights to Russian forward Kirill Kabanov in a five-player trade with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.

Kabanov, 19, is a third-round pick of the NHL's New York Islanders and currently on an eight-game tryout with the Swedish Elite League team Farjestads.

The Cataractes, who will host the 2012 Memorial Cup, dealt defenceman Nikita Kolesnikov, goaltender Storm Phaneuf and a 2012 draft pick to the Armada for Kabanov's rights and defenceman Alexandre Gauthier, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League confirmed Friday.

Kabanov has 21 goals and 30 assists in 61 combined games in the QMJHL with Lewiston and Moncton.

Kolesnikov had a goal and nine assists in 13 games for the Cataractes. Phaneuf, 15, is a goaltending prospect. Gauthier, 17, has yet to make his QMJHL debut.
