Barbashev strikes twice; Wildcats edge Sagueneens

CHARLOTTETOWN – Maxim Lazarev scored four times — including twice on the power play — and added an assist as the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles defeated the Charlottetown Islanders 6-2 on Friday night in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Alexandre Gosselin — also on the man advantage — and Evgeny Svechnikov found the back of the net in the third period for Cape Breton (24-24-5). The Screaming Eagles finished the game with three goals on eight power plays.

Filip Chlapik and Mitchell Balmas each had a goal for Charlottetown (27-23-4), which went 1 for 3 with the man advantage.

Miguel Sullivan had the win in net for Cape Breton, making 23 saves. Mason McDonald started for the Islanders, turning aside 27-of-33 shots in 49:52. Daryl MacCallum stopped all eight shots he faced in 10:08 of relief.

TITAN 3, SEA DOGS 2 (OT)

BATHURST, N.B. — Christophe Boivin scored 44 seconds into overtime on the power play as the Titan edged Saint John.

Andrew Ryan and Aaron Kerr had the other goals in regulation for Acadie-Bathurst (15-35-6). The win snapped a five-game losing skid.

Daniel Del Paggio and Adam Marsh chipped in for the Sea Dogs (28-18-8).

CATARACTES 6, MOOSEHEADS 5

HALIFAX — Alex Pawelczyk had a pair of goals as Shawinigan downed the Mooseheads.

Giovanni Fiore scored the winner at 15:45 of the third period for the Cataractes (29-21-3). Gabriel Slight, Christophe Lalonde and Anthony Beauvillier supplied the rest of the offence.

Vincent Watt, Brett Crossley, Taylor Ford, Philippe Gadoury and Brandon Vuic all scored for Halifax (26-23-4).

PHOENIX 5, HUSKIES 4 (OT)

SHERBROOKE, Que. — Daniel Audette had a power-play goal 4:02 into overtime as the Phoenix slipped past Rouyn-Noranda.

Raphael Lafontaine, Cameron Darcy, Chase Harwell and Kay Schweri supplied the rest of the offence for Sherbrooke (30-20-4). The win snaps a three-game losing skid.

Julien Pelletier, Jean-Christophe Beaudin, Ryan Penny and Antoine Waked scored for the Huskies (27-23-4).

WILDCATS 4, SAGUENEENS 3

CHICOUTIMI, Que. — Ivan Barbashev struck twice as Moncton edged the Sagueneens.

Conor Garland had a short-handed goal while Taylor Burke added an empty netter for the Wildcats (36-16-3).

Laurent Dauphin started the scoring for Chicoutimi (23-25-5) before Moncton blew the game open with four-straight goals. Patrice Demuy and Sebatien Gauthier chipped in late in the third period.

FOREURS 5, VOLTIGEURS 4

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Anthony Beauregard scored twice and added two assists as Val-d’Or edged the Voltigeurs.

Simon Tremblay, Julien Gauthier and Jeremie Fraser also found the back of the net for the Foreurs (24-22-8).

Michael Carcone, Julien Avon, Alex Barre-Boulet and Philippe Pelletier-Leblanc had the offence for Drummondville (23-29-3). It was the seventh-straight loss for the Voltigeurs.

OLYMPIQUES 7, REMPARTS 3

GATINEAU, Que. — Louick Marcotte scored a hat trick to lead the Olympiques over Quebec.

Yan Pavel Laplante, Jake Coughler, Yakov Trenin and Tommy Veilleux also chipped in for Gatineau (21-30-5).

Guillaume Gauthier, Ryan Graves and Adam Erne had goals for the Remparts (33-19-3). The loss snapped a five-game winning streak.
