Canada downs Slovakia at under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia – Canada wrapped up preliminary-round play at the under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup hockey tournament with a 6-1 win over Slovakia on Wednesday.

Barrett Hayton led the way for Canada with two goals and an assist, while Joe Veleno and Anderson MacDonald added a goal and an assist each.

Calen Addison and Gabriel Fortier also scored for Canada, which scored five of its goals on the power play.

Oliver Turan, on a power play, had the only goal for Slovakia.

Olivier Rogrigue made nine stops for Canada, while Michal Vojvoda stopped 19 shots for Slovakia.

Canada (2-0-1) will face Sweden (3-0-0) in the semifinals on Friday.
